Its easy to start feeling overwhelmed when you
start a diet. You feel as though your family will be eating
the "good" stuff, while you're stuck eating grilled chicken and
salad.
This is where many people go wrong. First,
do not think of it as a diet. This is a lifestyle. While
you may be trying to lose weight, your first goal should be to get
healthy. And, since you are getting healthy, your family
should as well.
Its very simple to feed a family healthy food.
Considering I have two sons and a husband, I needed to find foods
that everyone would like.
Chicken breast, pork chops, 93% lean ground beef
and turkey are three of my staple foods.
Chicken and pork can be grilled, baked, broiled, barbecued.
Breadcrumbs, peppers, onions can be used to add to the flavor.
Buy different marinades, and prepare them in the mornings or the
night before you go to bed. You can use lean ground beef in
spaghetti sauces, Sloppy Joes, I found so many delicious recipes
that were easy to use. I never tried tilapia until I started
Weight Watchers, and found I loved it.
I collected cookbooks full of quick and easy recipes.
Stock up on frozen vegetables. Use fat free
or skim milk to make mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese, using
reduced-fat or fat free cheeses.
Throw away all the cookies, cakes and chips.
Keep healthy alternatives in the house. Teach your children
how to eat better now, so they aren't dealing with the problems
we're dealing with when they get older. Fruits, baked chips,
fat-free puddings, sugar-free Jello. Try some of the
100-calorie packs. There's always something new to try.
You don't have to forbid yourself. If you
think you can't have something, you will want it even more.
Find ways to make your favorite meals healthier.
Again, this is a lifestyle. Don't do
anything to lose weight and get healthy that you're not willing to
do for the rest of your life. That means you have to allow
yourself all of the foods you like. How much and how often is
what will get you to the healthy you that you want to be.
